Behind the Scenes of
Into the World:
62 Devotions to Edify & Inspire
Growing up, my brother and I didn’t feel we benefited from our family devotions, which my mother typically read to us after supper. Every other devotion seemed to be a disjointed story about a dead dog accompanied by an unrelated Bible verse. Typical devotions didn’t seem to have any relevant information we could use.
Later, in confirmation instruction, every week one of us would have a turn choosing and reading a devotion to the class. Since most of these devotions were like those my mother had read, when my turn came, I wrote my own devotion, trying to apply God’s Word directly to situations that my classmates and I encountered in our lives.
When our church’s DPS realized that I had been writing my own devotions for confirmation, she encouraged me to continue, publishing the devotions in our church’s monthly newsletter. Worried about not having something worthwhile to write about every month, I tried not to let her down.
What eventually grew out of these seeds was Into the World: 62 Devotions to Edify & Inspire, with the intent of not only telling people about the Good News in God’s Word, but what that Word can teach us about topics from Creationism to equality to history and more.
